Case Naming Conventions and Practices in Prima.Law

In Prima.Law, it is advisable to maintain the current naming structure when you are creating a case. Standard operating procedures should include NOT giving a custom name to your cases whenever possible. You should be creating custom case types for any type of case you would regularly create for your clients.

For example, utilize the standard case-type names for immigration cases or create your firm’s own case types, but consistently use them so that when using the case management board, they are consistently labelled and easier to organize for purposes of making reports and performing analysis.

If you are creating other case-types, be sure to keep common elements among them. For example if you are creating multiple types of custom cases for divorce, make sure to include (for example) Divorce with Minor Children, and Divorce without Minor Children in the title (both using the word Divorce) so that you can use the case management board later to view all cases that include the word “Divorce” in the “Case-Type”.

Avoid creating ad-hoc case names when creating a case and stick with creating a new custom case type or using a “General Civil” or “Misc. Case” custom case type if no other option is available.
